Today at  Surf Center Arte Vida Tarifa, while kiting with the new kites from North, Evo and Fuse we detect that Manolo from WET was kiteboarding with a NEW model from  North Kiteboarding… NEO…  told us that is a new line coming soon in 7,9 and 12 mts, same EVO quality but with only 3 struts making the prize cheaper than EVO… hope we can get to try it soon… wil keep you post…

Today I had the opportunity to Kitesurf with the New Kite from North kiteboarding Evo 2010 in 9 mts, the wind was not enough to stay upwind and surf… but still good feedback

The first impression is that 2010 is the same kite from 09… not really big changes, some extra stiching in the struts, wich is good to preserve your toy, the bungee on the back lines that its been test in Rebels since 08… Nothing huge… Wich is good, 09 its a really nice kite. The first feeling launching… same… even ask the guys if they where making me a joke… soft, very compact and smooth feeling. Once in the water then can get the first diferences… bit more stable and thats a lot of stability now… not falling backwards even on light wind and onshore waves…For me is the best change!! and that was all folks, wind died… Hope next days will convince Jaime to borrow us one to do a deep test…

Yesterday the kited with West wind, the wait till 17:00 was worth cause they where riding full power with 9’s till 20:30 when the Flower Power Party from the Arte Vida chiringuito´s call them for a Mojito…
Today Saturday they did video correction and now they will go kiting again… The West (ponente) is here agian

Cesar Portas with the new Team Pro Model

First pics found from the new 2010 Surf Board, Team Series for Freestyle. Also the New Vegas and looks like a new Waist Harness. All from our Sponsor North Kiteboarding.

I try it in 20-24 knots not too gusty on-shore wind, with 1-3 foot  wind waves…5th element 25 mts lines…  and the kite is sweet, soft on the steering lines and not pulling much on the power lines… perfect for keep my progress on unhook riding… goes upwind really good even when the wind was limit… follows you on the wave riding, even on onshore waves (found it easier to backstall than 2008) great and fast relaunch does it itself…found that hangtime is not missing like in the 08… fast kiteloops even on the neutral zones, nice whe need a fast scape from the wave… I don´t miss my 08, sorry.

Next day the wind was a bit stronger, 20-30+ knots, offshore and gusty, 1-2 foot clean waves, 25mt lines. After this day  i decided that this is THE KITE of the year… On the first day i found the 5th element a bit loose so decided to tight it one knot shorter, the kite changed a lot, holding the gust much more, softer pull on the bar when overpower… but when underpower was riding short so decided to ride again with the 5th element loose and  much better. Definitly need to do that  setting for over 27 knots so the ride will be more confortable. It was holding 30 knots perfectly so with 20 mts lines and shortening the 5 th element i should be ok on 35+ knots… shit not sure i need the 6 mt… hope somebody makes a review to know more about that size…

Had the opportunity to try the new Helix on the first day, to do a fast compare, it has softer bar steering but lots more pull from the center lines to the harness, was nice to ride, nice aerials too… but like better my Evo.

For the beginners i recommend to set the kite not to powerfull mostly on light underpower situations cause of the backstalling diference between 08´s model. Definitly better recomended than the Rebel for the firt steps.

El primer día fue Getare viento de levante 20-24 nudos con olas pequeñas (0.5 a 1 mt.) la volé con lineas de 25 mts y 5º Elemento. Lo primero que debo decir: es una Maravilla, suave en la barra y la tracción al arnés es muy comoda, muy recomendable para seguir con mi aprendizaje surfenando desenganchado, incluso cuando el viento flojeaba la ceñida era muy buena, en la ola, la cometa te sigue incluso con poca tensión en las lineas sobretodo en condiciones on-shore, pero quizá es mas fácil que se caiga cuando el viento es limite comparando con la del 2008. Se relanza del agua muy fácil, bueno lo hace sola… la sustentación en los saltos tambien ha mejorado, con la del 08, subias para caer a plomo…los kiteloops son muy rapidos y suaves, de radio mas cerrado incluso en las zonas menos potentes donde en caso de necesidad se agradece, para escapar de la ola cerrona. El mismo día tuve la oportunidad de probar la nueva Helix 8 mts, muy buena cometa, menos tensión en la barra, de hecho es muy suave pero mucha tracción al arnés transmitida desde las lineas delanteras, muy buena con los aerials, pero prefiero mi Evo. Lo siento chicas pero me acabo de enamorar de mi Nueva Evo y no extraño nada a mi ex…

El siguiente dia decidí que había que probarla en condiciones un poco mas difíciles, así que Río Jara con 20-30+ nudos de levante (viento de tierra) fue el Spot escogido, con olas limpias de 0.5 mts. Otra vez con 25 mts de lineas, ya que el dia anterior me pareció que el 5º elemento estaba un poco destensado y que la racha entraba fuerte decidí acortar un nuco y se nota… la cometa volaba perfectamente, despotenciando para navegar comodo, el tiron en la barra al entrar la racha era suave.  Cuando el viento bajaba si que notaba ir corto así que cambie al primer trimaje navegando con la sensación de estar el 5º Elemento flojo… pero perfecto, aunque sí que se nota la barra mas cargada… Definitivamente ese trimaje y la barra de 20 mts de lineas es lo aconsejado para navegar mas comodo a partir de los 27+ nudos. Es un problema ya que no creo que necesite la 6 mts, espero que alguien la pruebe y nos comente sus impresiones para ver si me decido a tenerla para los dias de 40+ nudos.

Definitivamente mas recomendada que la Rebel para principiantes…

Today I was riding the 9 with the freestyle fish (strapples)… 12-13 knots and perfetly going upwind  so same grunty pulling than 2008 but softer feeling on the bar… when flying the kite looks really compact… i think because of the way the struts are conected with the leading edge… and maybe because this year i gonna use them with 5th element bar, Jaime says this way they win in stability and a bit in depower… will try the 7 on the next days.. forecast shows strong and gusty  side-off conditions….perfect to try a new kite. I think  i ll love it too, comparing to ´08 looks less school kite-more high performance kite, 5 struts so less strange flagging on the panels… like 08´s and better stability,  will post my opinion soon.

What i really dont like on the 9 its the white color on the leading edge, i think it will get really dirty fast… making it looking ugly once the time to sell them… 

Everybody its invited to try them in the Surf Center… same as all the North gear we got till the moment.

Ayer después de mucha espera recibí mis nuevos juguetes…Las nuevas North Evo, tengo que agradecer a los chicos de Wet por el esfuerzo. Para empezar me he pedido 7 y 9 (igual que el año pasado) al principio dudaba con la 9 ya que, según el Team de North, le han quitado un poco de tracción (viento flojo)y le han dado mejor depower con viento fuerte… en la 7 mts no tenia duda, ya que parece una cometa completamente diferente, entre otras cosas las 5 costillas en vez de 3, ganando en prestaciones, estabilidad y  la forma de trasmitirnos la tracción durante el vuelo a travez de la ventana. Ya os contaré cuando la pruebe.

Hoy he usado la 9 mts con la freestyle fish (sin footstraps) el viento era flojo (segun la estación en Ozu 12-14 nudos)… he montado pensando que no iba a conseguir ceñir…pero no podia aguantar mas a probarla, al ser un poco mas rápida que la del 2008 es posible crear viento aparente mas fácil, contrarrestando la tracción que, en teoría, hemos perdido con esta medida, en vientos flojos, ademas es mucho mas cómoda ya que hay menos presión en la barra. Aun tengo que comprobar el depower con viento fuerte, en teoria, es lo que hemos ganado en esta medida.  De momento las voy a usar con 5 lineas, segun Jaime ganamos en estabilidad… aunque no descarto probarlas también con 4 lineas y con lineas cortas (20 mts). Ya ire comentandolo.

He de comentar tambien que la cometa se ve y siente mas compacta, parece que si hay diferencia al conectar las costillas de diferente manera al borde de ataque.

Lo que definitiamente no me gustó es el color blanco en el borde de ataque, creo que se ensuciará facilmente, dificultando la venta de segunda mano. Con el parte que tenemos previsto podré probar la 7 mts pronto, con viento fuerte, racheado y de tierra… perfecto para una buen test. Os mantendré informados.
